The UK Graduate Route: Post-Study Work Opportunities Demystified

The United Kingdom's Graduate Route (commonly known as the Post-Study Work or PSW visa) is a fantastic opportunity for international students to launch their global careers. Launched to retain global talent, this route enables eligible international graduates to stay, work, or look for employment in the UK after successfully completing their degree.

How Long Can You Stay?

Under the Graduate Route:

  • Bachelor's and Master's Graduates: Can stay and work in the UK for up to 2 years.
  • Doctoral/PhD Graduates: Can stay and work in the UK for up to 3 years.

Key Eligibility Criteria

To qualify for the Graduate Route, you must fulfill the following:

  • You must be in the UK on a valid Student Visa.
  • You must have successfully completed an eligible undergraduate or postgraduate degree at a Higher Education Provider with a track record of compliance.
  • Your university must notify the Home Office of your successful completion before you apply.
  • You do not need a job offer to apply, and there is no minimum salary requirement.

Transitioning to a Skilled Worker Visa

While on the Graduate Route, if you secure a qualifying job offer from a sponsored employer, you can apply to switch to a Skilled Worker Visa. This pathway can lead to settlement (Indefinite Leave to Remain) in the UK, making it a critical stepping stone for long-term career planning.
